Convo of the Week

friend: man I’m so stoned I was about to ask you if you were near a computer

Obviously this was on Instant Messanger. Yep, sometimes you don’t need to mess with an awesome thing.

It’s GTD Week: Day 5

This week turned out to be both quite challenging and productive all rolled up in one.  Unfortunately I was not able to spend all 5 days on my GTD goal for the whole week, but I did get quite a lot done which I’m really proud of.  I do want to talk about how much I like OmniFocus to keep things together, but I’m still not sure I want to spend the money on a license, I mean seriously $80?

In any case the fact we finallly have FIOS installed at the apartment made my month.  This service is rediculously fast and the all digital TV that more than doubled my HD channels is great.  I can honestly say I feel the picture quality is much better, motion choppiness is much less, etc.  For a while the voice was off a bit from the picture but it seems like it fixed itself so all is back to normal.

Next week should be an interesting one. Lots of work coming and I’m waiting on the confirmation now. More this weekend.

It’s GTD Week: Day 2

Day two is complete in my on-going search for efficiency through dedication.  Today was awesome, and if you don’t mind I’d like to share.

  • Finished up a few finance things I rolled into today
  • Cleaned out my trusty “@Followup” email folder that has had 20-100 emails rotating in it since I started 9 Meter earlier this year – huzzaahhhH!
  • Setup a copy of OmniFocus with Dave’s advice and got my tasks in order, sofar I love this app, trying to decide if it + the iPhone app are worth a $100 investment.
  • Worked on a bit of project goodness
  • Had a great new business iChat meeting (actually using it for a purpose for the first time) on a possible really exciting idea I may start on in a few weeks

For what it’s worth, so-far this week is going great.  I love the fact I’m avoiding laziness and actually getting my stuff together.  Tomorrow should be equally as fulfilling. Going to attempt to finish sorting through ALL the bookmarks (excluding del.icio.us tags) and sync them between browsers.  That alone would make this week worth it.

Val is cooking Parmesan Chicken tonight, and we’re going to watch a movie.  After she goes to bed I’m looking forward to Listing to The Dip by Seth Godin which my buddy Jason so graciously gifted for me earlier today.  Thanks bro!

It’s GTD Week: Day 1

For anyone who recalls the previous post I made, I sort of outlined how I’ve been feeing about the web and where I fall into place with it.  The more considered my options and where things stand, I realize I needed to do a little soulseeking and step up to change some things that have been eating away at me.

I decided that this is my GTD week. No excuses, no putting shit off, just getting it all together and making the most of each day.  Today I focused on finances.

  • Sorted through old invoices and got my accounting in order and up-to-date
  • Paid all my outstanding bills for the month
  • Re-configured my account on mint.com (amazing finance site) to set reminders and alerts, include my student loans and investment accounts to get a handle on everything
  • Setup a new SimplyBusiness AMEX card (with 1-5% cashback) to focus all my nasty bills on since every little bit helps
  • Entered all my due dates and recuring expenses into a new calendar so I can see what is coming up every month.

I don’t have a lavish master plan for what this week will consist of, but I know it’s all about me taking care of me.  For one week I need to focus on what I need and not be the nice guy that does everything for everyone else which is usually what my days amount to in the end.  I suppose that will have to wait till next week. Each day I plan on waking up respectively early (around 10a), working through the day on what’s important to me, spending time in the evening with Val to decompress, and getting to bed before my normal 2-4am last call, I’m shooting for around 11p-midnight. I’m not setting deadlines or outrageous goals since things come up and I don’t want to be mad at myself if I don’t make them. This is my way of doing a little cleansing of the mind and feeling better about what’s next.

Oh and if you were wondering, yes I made the image above, yes I know its lame and no I didn’t spend more than 3 minutes on it.
