I saw this on Dave’s linkblog this morning and seeing as I’m going to be on this boat tomorrow, I’m really going to see this movie when I get back. Up the Yangtze documents the building of the world’s largest dam on the Yangtze river in China. It’s really sad for me knowing that I’m going to be part of the whole reason they made this movie, but my goal for coming to China was to document life as I see it in the short two weeks I’m here.. nothing more. I love indie films that expose the other side of things, and this is probably the first time I’m on that side. Even though I feel bad for being part of it, this is still communist China and regardless of weather or not I bought the ticket, it’s still going to happen. The good in this is that they’re building this damn to stop this river from flooding out the people that live there, however loosing your home, weather it be temporary or permanent is never fun.
The least I can do is try to take a picture or two to capture the feelings I come across a change in history and life for these people.
