It’s GTD Week: Day 5

This week turned out to be both quite challenging and productive all rolled up in one.  Unfortunately I was not able to spend all 5 days on my GTD goal for the whole week, but I did get quite a lot done which I’m really proud of.  I do want to talk about how much I like OmniFocus to keep things together, but I’m still not sure I want to spend the money on a license, I mean seriously $80?

In any case the fact we finallly have FIOS installed at the apartment made my month.  This service is rediculously fast and the all digital TV that more than doubled my HD channels is great.  I can honestly say I feel the picture quality is much better, motion choppiness is much less, etc.  For a while the voice was off a bit from the picture but it seems like it fixed itself so all is back to normal.

Next week should be an interesting one. Lots of work coming and I’m waiting on the confirmation now. More this weekend.

Beijing 2008 Games

So I have to admit, I’m so ridiculously excited for the Olympics to start in 5 days I can’t even express it. I remember watching them as a kid, every few years when they came on and it’s just awesome times.

Beijing 2008If anyone has seen the VISA TV spots they’ve been showing with Morgan Freedman doing the announcing, I think you’ll see my point. The campaign is “Go World” and it’s just touching in a lot of ways. The fact is for the course of the Olympics, you have this overwhelming respect from everyone in every country. When it comes to the Olympics, no one cares about policies and politics. And it’s amazing. You literally want the best possible for everyone that you’re competing against in the respect that everyone is there for the same reason.

I’ve never been a big athlete, my life revolved around Scouting which I’m mighty proud of. But I can only imagine the feeling these athleets feel when they get up there and know that they’re the best of the best, all waiting for their turn to hear their national anthem sung, for them. It’s got to be one of the most emotional and humbling things a person could ask for. It’s just nice to realize that for a while I can turn on the TV and watch something great, and not have to listen to how many murders and horrible things are going on every night on the news.

I think one of the most exciting things I’m looking forward to is to watch it on High Def knowing that a handfull of the places they show in TV, I got to see in person. Driving by some of the spots while I was in Beijing and actually seeing these enormous buildings that looked so good first hand, I can’t wait to see that again fully glorified with the token theme song blaring.

China is definitely an under-rated place with a lot of connotation they don’t deserve anymore. I’m fortunate being lucky enough to experience and learn from it myself, and I do look forward to going back one day. I really hope that for the 16 days the world is showing off the best they have, we can enjoy a little peace and appreciation for those who dedicate their lives to the sport and deserve our appreciation of the game. I truly feel that no one deserves the spotlight more then they do, “go world!”

Netflix: Going Blu-Ray

Netflix: Bluray

Part of me is crying on the inside, at this point I feel like I bought a Beta player. Except my HD-DVD player produces an identical picture to the winner, still looks damn good, and it’s slowly dying and loosing the format war and becoming obsolete.

The Letter:

We’re Going Blu-ray

Dear Jim,

You’re receiving this email because you have asked to receive high-definition movies in the HD DVD format. As you may have heard, most of the major movie studios have recently decided to release their high-definition movies exclusively in the Blu-ray format. In order to provide the best selection of high-definition titles for our members, we have decided to go exclusively with Blu-ray as well.

While we will continue to make our current selection of HD DVD titles available to you for the next several months, we will not be adding additional HD DVD titles or reordering replacements.

Toward the end of February, HD DVDs in your Saved Queue will automatically be changed to standard definition DVDs. Then toward the end of this year, all HD DVDs in your Queue will be changed to standard definition DVDs. Don’t worry, we will contact you before this happens.

You can click here to change your format preferences.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please call us at 1 (888) 638-3549.
