Back in effect

It took me quite a bit longer than I thought, but things are finally back on track around here.  I really needed that break.  From tech, from the social web, and from everything in life for a few.  It was strange, after I got married and got back from our honeymoon last year, I just realized I wanted to spend a little more time enjoying the things in-front of me.  It gave me a good chance to get settled in to our temporary home here and figure out my next steps for the rest of this year.

9meter.com

Yesterday I also finished my new (and first since college) portfolio site, which I have to say, I’m really diggin at the moment.  Hop over to http://9meter.com and let me know what you think.  I had a good time with it, as you can tell.  I’m hoping to continually update new screenshots and post them here as well when I have updates.  It’s nothing huge but people have been asking me for it for so long, I realize it’s time.

All that said, I plan on kicking things off here shortly and keeping this site updated with what I’ve got going on day-to-day.  You’ll also see I dumped the ajaxy comments and started using disqus.  Don’t worry you don’t have to register or anything like that, but you can use Facebook connect now to leave comments, or if you do signup, it’s a good way to track your comments on supported blogs accross the internets.

Change: Yes I Can

I’ve had a while to think about things and I feel pretty good about all the decisions I’m making for next year. Here’s my pre-new-year’s resolutions to get off my chest:

Me and Val are making a huge change, and we’re moving out of Long Beach (i know..) and in with family in Chino Hills to save some cash next year with the hopes to buy a home by the end of 2009 or early 2010. It’s weird to think that I’m leaving LB after the 4+ years I’ve existed here, but that just means new perspective, new surroundings, and hopefully new outlooks on life.

I’ve also been pretty excited about the release of the Canon 5D MarkII, and on the waiting list for the last month or two.  However I decided to pass and hold off on buying it now that it’s shipping.  I realize that if I just jump into bed with a new camera with hopes to do amazing things, I’ll be just like every other Prosumer out there.. and I’ll loose even more desire to take photos since I’ll be so excited about taking video.  ..rather I’m taking the initiative to get better at what I do know and finish my outstanding projects before I make a new investment. I also want to do my homework and be ready for the transition to video.  I plan on watching a lot more movies, in detail, and dissecting them the best I can.  I want to learn all the things you take for-granted which constitutes a good movie, understand editing a bit more and really get a good feel for color. Hopefully early next year I’ll make the purchase after I can see what other people are coming up with and figure out what to avoid.  I’m up for the exciting new challenge and in for the ride.

Lastly, my blog has always been a little side website where I’ve thrown up all kinds of randomness as I come about it.  Somehow that lost it’s luster amongst many other things recently but I’m in the process of turning it around.

With the help of a few friends I’m going to make this into a portal for the things I work on and am into day-to-day. Nothing over the top, just something focused that I’ll enjoy putting my effort into.  Looking at my stats I’ve only lost about 20% of my new traffic over the last month where I’ve been silent with posting, so that tells me it’s still worth pushing out my thoughts and forcing you to enjoy them like the good American I am.  Heh.

Back soon with a new design, and a new feel for this place.

Who The Hell is That Guy?

I’ve been wanting to start a blog dedicated to this stuff forever.  This picture just gave me the inspiration I needed to get it going.  Look out for whothehellisthatguy.com coming to a browser near you soon.

The Perfect Comment

The Guys at XKCD never fail to impress. In fact, they got this one more than right. It would be an understatment to say that they were not inspired by the lovely commenting on Digg to write this, however I’d be willing to bet $$ thats all they needed.

Design Refresh

With the great new release of WordPress 2.3 I figured it was time to get back into my happy place for blogging again. Here’s the newest version of my little hole in the web.

New Design

Things are looking better now for me free-time wise. Finished up the last of my freelance, my position from just “web guy” turns into more of a managerial roll as we start to hire some new recruits. I’ll be overseeing the production and taking the fun/more complex stuff. My homie Mark starts tomorrow and will be helping with a lot of the email broadcasting & client contact which will free up at least a few hours a day, we’re jumping on the Basecamp wagon for a little better PM and I might finally have some time to start posting again!

I’m sure I’ll be cleaning up the styles and making this look a lot better in a few, it works, so it’s fine for now.

You may notice a few fun things I added back in: Now Playing is back, recent photo feed and the much requested LB cam. Until I can find a better place to put the camera, you can stare at my adjoining apartment building and watch the clouds.
