If Everything Was Made by Microsoft

Great list, the photo mashup’s are hilarious.  The winning photo is well deserving of it’s title.

If Everything Was Made by Microsoft | Cracked.com.

Back in the 90s, it looked like Microsoft might take over the world. But after ten years, Vista, the iPod, and a government lawsuit, we feel pretty safe saying that’s not happening. But we’re equally certain that it won’t be for a lack of trying. Whether they’re unleashing the Zune or hip new Microsoft Stores, their ambition is only matched by their painful lack of self awareness. So how long until they try their hand at making, well, everything else?

We asked you to show us what the world might look like if it really did run on Microsoft. The winner is below, but first the runners up.

Isthisyourluggage.com

This is pretty creepy & great all together.  I love the concept but theres a line that needs to be be drawn here.  Regardless I’m still mad I didn’t think of it first.

Creepy Alert: Isthisyourluggage.com

If you’ve traveled enough, there’s a good chance you’ve lost your luggage before. Sure, it’s annoying as hell, but most people get it back within a few days. However, some people, for whatever reason, never claim their lost luggage, and the airlines then auction it off for charity. That’s where isthisyourluggage.com comes in.

The site, run by some anonymous person, collects this auctioned off luggage, and takes pictures of it to put on the site. Yes, this person opens the lugguage, takes out all of the items, and photographs them. Yes, this is creepy.

But it’s also a great web oddity. The main page of the site features pictures of each suitcase, you can click on any of them and get taken to a page that shows the pictures of each item inside. If you click on this picture, it zooms in, giving you a closer view of the items. I haven’t noticed anything too out of the ordinary, though one baghas a sort of strange nurse’s outfit, which may or may not double as a stripper outfit.

At least the creator of the site is honest. As they write on the about page, “I GO TO THESE AUCTIONS AND BUY THE CASES SO I CAN PHOTOGRAPH THEM FOR MY WEIRD VOYEURISTIC PASSION.”

The New Pricegrabber

Today I jumped on pricegrabber.com to update some alerts I had set and noticed the new design, layout and community they just rolled live.  Not too bad at all.

There are definitely a few bugs they seem to be working out, however overall I’m really impressed.  They use the glossy & trendy new-web look with the large search box and very fast search suggestions.  The whole feel of the site is very cohesive and the community/user profile areas are put together quite nice.

One silent-yet-deadly feature that they pulled off really well is the smart tabbed-navigation for the categories/sections.  You’ll notice that they appear & re-appear as your browser width changes yet the all-important “Election ‘08″ stays put.  Gotta’ love those paid sponsorships.

These are my favorite kind of re-launches.  Where bugs are still apparent but you know they put a lot of work into the base of it.  I like knowing that bigger companies can make large scale changes like this along-side the smaller and show they’re human all the same.  Nice work guys.

The Big Word Project

Big Word

Was meaning to post this a few ago, but man, I’m still royally ticked off that I didn’t think of this first. The goal of The Big Word Project is to Redefine Words.

For each word, there is a link. You get the idea.

I bought: define, for, each, scotch, whisky, jimmy, & carter.. naturally.

Nice
